Indonesia Air Asia’s inaugural service from Denpasar has touched
down in Cairns, Tropical North Queensland, with flights now operating
three times per week.
The flights are predicted to open up one-stop connections between
Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and other Indonesian ports using Denpasar
as a hub.
Still in Queensland, the Gold Coast Airport is set to welcome its
first Hong Kong connection in six years, with Hong Kong Airlines
launching a seasonal service, taking flight mid-January 2025.
The service will operate four times per week for a five-week season
over the Chinese New Year period, delivering approximately 6,000 seats
to the Gold Coast.
Also on the east coast, Juneyao Air has announced the launch of
direct flights between Sydney and Shanghai, set to operate four times
per week commencing on 17 December.
On the other side of the country, Chinese airlines are ramping up
services to Perth with both China Eastern Airlines and China Southern
Airlines arriving in the West Australian capital city.
China Southern will launch a non-stop service between Guangzhou and
Perth in November, while China Eastern will offer three-times-a-week
non-stop flights between Shanghai and Perth over 2025 Chinese New Year.
Elsewhere, Chinese airlines are continuing to bring back flights to
Asia and Europe, which is helping to lower prices on Asian routes as a
whole.
Asia-Europe airfares will be 3.4% cheaper this year for economy-class
seating, and 4% lower in business class, according to American Express
Global Business Travel.
